Hitting The Greens with PAX x Jesus of Golf

Jacob Golliday didn't come to golf the traditional way. A former college baseball player whose career was cut short by injury, he pivoted to the sport in 2017 with something most golfers weren't bringing to the course: a deep background in cannabis, a season spent in Humboldt learning the culture of the plant, and a conviction that the two worlds belonged together. 

He goes by Jesus of Golf. The name stuck about seven years ago, and so did the mission.

Out at Arroyo Trabuco in Southern California, Golliday is doing what he does best: hitting the PAX FOUR between shots, playing a casual match with friends, and making the case, just by being himself, that cannabis and golf are a natural pairing. He's a long-drive competitor known for 400-plus yard drives, an influencer, an entrepreneur, and one of the more charismatic figures in a sport that's been quietly changing for years. 

The change he's talking about isn't just about golf. It's about who's at the table, or in this case, who's on the course. "There's nowhere else in the world where you can smoke a joint and play golf and it could be four guys, some creative guys, a Fortune 500 guy, or a hippie from the beach," Golliday says. "It only happens on the golf course or while smoking weed where you can be in this group of people who lead totally different lives."

That intersection—cannabis as social equalizer, golf as unlikely common ground—is what drew Golliday to combine the two in the first place. He saw two movements converging and decided to be the person who named it. What started as a personal brand has grown into Par-Tee Tour, a golf, music, and art festival he co-founded that brings that same cross-section of people together in a more intentional setting.

For Golliday, cannabis has never just been recreational. It's a functional tool for recovery, focus, and mental health that he's incorporated into training and competition throughout his career. A session on the course is as much a part of the ritual as warming up on the range: intentional, consistent, and built into how he plays his best.

"I use it the most for mental health, just to be able to shut your mind down a little bit," he says. "At the end of the day, with adrenaline and the high of success, it's always helped me shut off. That's kind of like recovery for me."

The stigma conversation is shifting too, and Golliday has watched it happen in real time in some of the most unexpected places. "At the country club, everyone smokes weed," he says. "Everyone in the cannabis space that works in it loves it, but they don't want to tell anyone. That was my first relatability, but now the country club users are open about it. That energy is flipped already, which is crazy."

Golliday has been pushing for that cultural shift for years, and it's finally happening. On the course, between drives, with a PAX in hand, he's exactly where he planned to be.
