Ask PAX: Cleaning Your Device

Got a question about PAX devices and products? We've got answers.

Dear PAX,

I bought a PAX 3 a few months ago, and I’ve really been enjoying it so far. Aside from one issue, that is. I’ve started to notice that the vapor tastes a little, well, off.  I feel like I can’t taste the flower the way I could in the beginning. At first, I thought the flower I was using might have been a little stale. So, I ran down to the dispo to grab some fresh herb. But it still tasted off. Is something wrong?

Help!

-Bad Taste in Mouth

Hi Bad Taste in Mouth,

I’ve got good news and better news. The good news is that there’s nothing wrong with your device. The better news is that I’ve got a solution for your problem. That “off” taste you’re experiencing are likely the ghosts of puffs past aka flower residue from previous uses. This residue collects in the vapor path of your device. It’s completely normal and just means you need to clean your device.

In my experience, cleaning your device every few uses is the key to preserving a flavorful experience. Luckily for us, PAX 2 and PAX 3 actually come with a maintenance kit that includes a wire brush and some pipe cleaners. If you can’t find yours, don’t worry, you can get another one here.

So, how do you clean your PAX 3 device? It sounds like your device hasn’t been cleaned yet, so I’d suggest giving it a deep clean. From there, light more regular cleaning should do the trick. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Your PAX maintenance kit or other small pipe cleaners

  • isopropyl alcohol

  • a small bowl

  • a paper towel or other cloth

  • about 5 minutes of free time

Got your supplies? Let’s get started!

Step 1: Remove the mouthpiece and the oven lid.

Step 2: Dip your pipe cleaner or wire brush in the isopropyl alcohol, squeeze off any excess, then insert into the vapor pathway to pop out the oven screen.

Step 3: Fill bowl with isopropyl alcohol, drop in the mouthpiece and oven screen (not the oven lid), let soak for a few minutes.

Step 3: ‘Floss' the pipe cleaner back & forth through the vapor path to remove any residue or buildup.

Step 4: Clean the inside of the oven and the top of the device using a Q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

Step 5: Remove the oven screen and mouthpiece, make sure they are completely dry, then replace on device.

Done!

Happy puffing!
